Pipefitter Helper

SUMMARYLays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems, applying knowledge of system operation, and following blueprints.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Plans pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications and prints.
- Cuts, threads, and hammers pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders and benders.
- Attaches pipes to walls, structures and fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment.
- Modifies and maintains pipe systems and related machines and equipment components following specifications, using hand tools and power tools.
- Selects pipe sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
- Measures and marks pipes for cutting and threading.
- Assembles pipes, tubes, and fittings, according to specifications.
- Inspects, examines, and tests installed systems and pipe lines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
- Lays out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints.
- Inspects work site to determine presence of obstruction and ensure that holes will not cause structure weakness.
- Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONSMust have knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to be able to assemble and install a variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, using threaded caulked, soldering, brazen, fused, or cemented joints.
Will secure pipes to structure with bracket, clamps, and hangers, using hand tools and power tools.
Install and maintains hydraulic and pneumatic components or machines and equipment, such as pumps and cylinders using hand tools.
Installs and maintains compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping, using hand tools and power tools, and following specifications and blueprints.
Increase pressure in pipe system and observes connected pressure gauge to test system.
Should have the ability to weld pipe supports to structural steel members.
Respiratory protection is common and may be required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Position will typically require a high school diploma or equivalent with basic understanding of mathematics and 1-4 years of related experience as an apprentice.
