MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus six years of professional engineering experience.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience.
A Ph.D. in engineering will substitute for two years of the required experience.
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of required experience.
NOTE:
Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.
NOTE:
Engineering experience gained prior to earning a professional engineer's license (e.g., as an engineer intern applicant, engineer intern, or equivalent) will be accepted as professional level engineering experience.
NOTE:Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges; the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

This job is designated a Dual Career Ladder job as defined in Civil Service Rule , requiring performance of higher level, more complex duties and possession of advanced, specialized skills. A Civil Service Commission approved agency policy is required prior to implementation.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Represents the agency at meetings; provides technical testimony and serves as an expert witness at hearings; provides expert advice and feedback/information to state legislators, other state, federal and local government officials, administrators and managers, planning organizations, the news media, business and civic groups, and the general public on specific Department program area.
Conducts research, in-depth analyses, and prepares detailed reports on current and future projects; manages contractual agreements with consultants performing similar tasks.
Serves on teams responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and selecting projects.
Provides technical engineering assistance to HQ and field engineering personnel in solving difficult and unusual problems, using state-of-the-art technology.
Participates in coordinated research studies and activities at the national level.
Identifies problems, develops research program, writes proposals, conducts research and disseminates research findings through publications, technical summaries and the presentation of research papers.
Develops and conducts department-wide implementation programs based on research findings.
