MINIMUM
Qualifications:
A baccalaureate degree plus three years of professional level experience in information technology or electrical engineering.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Experience or training in information technology or electronic technician work will substitute for the required college training on the basis of twelve months of experience/training for two years of college.
An associate degree in computer science will substitute for the baccalaureate degree.
A baccalaureate degree with twenty-four semester hours in computer science, management information systems (MIS), quantitative business analysis-computer science, electrical engineering, information systems and decision sciences, computer engineering, telecommunications, or computer information systems will substitute for one year of the required experience.
A master's degree in the above fields will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Specialized degrees will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies:the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges; the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Preference will be given to candidates who have Microsoft and VMware server management experience, and experience managing printing, DHCP, Active Directory, switches, and VPN in a medium to large multi-site enterprise.
This position may be filled by probationary appointmentor by promotion of classified employees ofLouisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry serving with permanent status. Applicants who are not permanent employees of Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry may be required to serve a newprobationary period.

To conduct the installation, maintenance, and administration of complex software/hardware that has department-wide impact in the areas of systems software/hardware, database software, or network software/hardware for (LAN/WAN/enterprise) system support; performing as consultant and advisor on particular areas of software/hardware, interfacing with vendors in problem resolution, and optimization; assisting in evaluation and recommendation of software and/or hardware.

Job Distinctions:

SYSTEMS SOFTWARE:
Evaluates and recommends the selection of vendor supplied software packages; recommends and prepares specifications for modifications and customization of purchased software.
Coordinates the installation, maintenance, and modification of vendor-supplied software (e.g., operating systems, communications managers, database management systems, compilers) for a system or complex network supporting applications critical to state business functions (often requiring after-hours scheduling due to extensive availability requirements).
Coordinates the design, development, and installation of in-house software packages (or modifications to vendor packages) by designing work and specifications. Consults regularly with vendors concerning software and/or hardware problems, resolutions, and system and network performance.
Advises and consults with end-users, administrators, technical support personnel and management consultants, performing network design, designing and providing documentation, instruction, problem analysis and education pertaining to specific and highly complex areas of software and network performance.
DATABASE:
Establishes departmental policy with regard to: data definition and data relationships, database design, database implementation, database operation, database security, and data accessibility.
Performs or supervises and directs personnel responsible for database planning and administration, the liaison between users and the database administrator, the establishment of database standards and procedures, database security, database documentation, and application technical support.
Coordinates dissemination of information regarding present and future database resource (personnel, software and hardware) requirements to senior and middle management.

NETWORK SUPPORT:

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
