Qualifications MINIMUM
Qualifications:
A baccalaureate degree plus possession of a current FAA commercial pilot's license with instrument rating, plus 1000 hours of recorded flight time, plus four years of professional aviation experience in one or a combination of the following program areas:
law enforcement, fire control, vegetation disease and control, aerial survey, aerial photography, airport inspection, commercial aviation, military aviation, or wildlife management.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Experience in law enforcement, wildlife management, aerial photography, aviation or forestry will substitute for the required degree on a year for year basis.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to check out on the models and types of aircraft to be flown.
Possession of current FAA medical certificate.
Possession of appropriate ratings, waivers and/or certificates that may be required by the position to which the appointment is being made.
Must be willing to carry and use a firearm if the flight assignment should require it.
NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
Job Concepts Function of Work:
To supervise all air operations activities for an agency with responsibility for operating six or more aircraft.
Level of Work:
Supervisor.
Supervision Received:
Broad direction from upper level agency managers.
Supervision Exercised:
Line over lower ranking pilots and/or aircraft maintenance/repair personnel.

May be used by all state agencies.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Aircraft Fleet Chief Pilot by supervisory responsibility for all agency air operations when operation of six or more aircraft is involved.
Examples of Work Supervises all activities of an agency's air operations including maintenance and training as well as flight operations.
Analyzes air fleet expenditures; determines and submits air operations budget.
Plans, implements and monitors activities which comply with directives related to pilot proficiency, safety, maintenance procedures and aircraft utilization.
Ensures that all flight procedures conform to FAA and state regulations.
Dispatches and schedules flights.
Maintains aircraft maintenance records and schedules repairs.
Prepares reports and records as required.
Maintains flight records on all agency aircraft and flight personnel.
Pilots aircraft to perform agency program duties or to transport cargo or passengers as assigned.
